SUNSPOTS & AGE SPOTS
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy treats pigmented irregularities that affect both men and women of all ages. Sun spots are associated with chronically sun-exposed areas such as the face, neck, chest, décolleté, shoulders, upper back, arms, and the back of hands although IPL treatments can be used anywhere on the body. The intense light is delivered to the deeper parts of the skin (dermis) and leaves the thin, outermost area of skin (epidermis) untouched.
WHAT TO EXPECT
IPL offers a non-invasive and non-ablative technique for addressing pigmented irregularities without damaging the surface of the skin. The IPL seeks any pigment issue within the skin and draws the pigment to the surface. A couple of days after each treatment, the pigmented areas actually flake off giving you a more youthful appearance. This treatment can be done during a lunch hour and no one will notice any sign of treatment, just a gradual improvement in your skin’s appearance. IPL treatments do not hurt; you may feel a “hot pinch” or “snapping” sensation that only lasts a fraction of a second. You should be able to return to normal activities immediately after your treatment making this the perfect lunch-break procedure. Mild redness may occur and usually disappears within a few hours.
IPL produces gradual changes during the course of your treatments. Because pigmented irregularities are being drawn towards the surface of your skin, you may notice that brown spots will temporarily darken before they lighten. A series of 4 treatments is usually recommended for most people to achieve the best results. Treatments can be repeated every 3-4 weeks. Semi-annual maintenance treatments are recommended to maintain your more youthful skin tone.
