ROSACEA

Rosacea is a common skin condition that affects an estimated 14 million women and men in America. This condition presents a variety of symptoms from redness and flushing to papulopustular eruptions, and in the most severe cases, an overgrowth of tissue that may disfigure the nose. IPL therapy offers a safe, gentle way to address the redness and visible facial vessels. The redness, often aggravated by flushing, may cause small blood vessels in the face to enlarge and become more visible through the skin, appearing like tiny red lines. Episodes of flushing may promote inflammation, causing red bumps that resemble teenage acne. IPL therapy targets the tiny vessels beneath the skin surface, defusing excessive facial redness and ruddy complexions. IPL therapy does not damage the skin’s surface. Each treatment is gentle with no downtime. Results are particularly effective when combined with a medical peel.

WHAT TO EXPECT

IPL is a non-invasive and non-ablative technique that gently heats and diminishes skin imperfections such as Rosacea without damaging the surface of the skin. IPL uses radio-frequency which boosts the results of the IPL and allows the clinician to use a lower fluence (strength) while providing very good results. Since Rosacea sufferers are already prone to redness and flushing, this lower fluence makes the IPL the ideal treatment. Treatments can be done during a lunch hour; no one will notice any sign of treatment, just a gradual improvement in your skin’s appearance. You can even apply makeup before leaving the med-spa and return to work the same day. Several treatments are recommended to achieve the best results. IPL treatments will also help to reduce and slow the progression of the papulopustular component of Rosacea.

IPL treatments do not hurt; you may feel a “hot pinch” or “snapping” sensation that only lasts a fraction of a second. Mild redness may occur and usually disappears within a few hours. A couple of days after each treatment, the treated areas will flake off giving you the added benefit of a more youthful appearance. Depending on the condition of your skin, a series of treatments may be recommended to achieve the best results. Treatments can be repeated every 3-4 weeks. Semi-annual maintenance treatments are recommended. Protective eye goggles are provided.
